abstract = {Purpose - The paper aims to provide the necessary basis for a novel interdisciplinary research field. Various types and implementations of crowdsourcing have emerged in the market; many of them are related to logistics. While we can identify plenty of crowd logistics applications using information technology capabilities and information sharing in practice, theories behind this phenomenon have received only limited attention. This paper accounts for filling this research gap by analyzing the crowd's contributions in logistics of goods and information. Design/methodology/approach - This paper is part of an ongoing research endeavor in the field of location-based crowdsourcing. It represents conceptual work that builds on a literature review enriched with an in-depth analysis of real-world examples in the field of crowd logistics. Using a scoring method, we provide an example how a company may evaluate the alternatives of crowd logistics. The main approach is an analysis of variants of how the social crowd may be integrated in logistics processes. The work is conceptual in its core. Thereby, we use real-world examples of crowdsourcing applications to underpin the evaluated variants of crowd logistics. Findings - The paper presents relevant theoretical background on crowd logistics. The authors differentiate between variants of crowd logistics with their flow of materials, goods and information. Thereby they zoom in the type, significance and process flow of the crowd's contributions. They discuss potential advantages and challenges of logistics with the performing crowd and deeply discuss opportunities and challenges from a business and from an individual's perspective. Finally, they highlight a route map for future research directions in this novel interdisciplinary research field. Research limitations/implications - As this work is conceptual in its core, generalizations may be drawn only with great care. Still, we are in a position to propose a route map for further research in this area in this paper. Also the integration of an analysis of a scale of real-world applications allows us to highlight our research's practical relevance and implications. Originality/value - The main contribution of this paper is an in-depth analysis and consolidation of innovative crowd logistics applications to provide an overview on recent implementations. The authors propose a categorization scheme and contribute with a route map for further research in the field of crowd logistics.},

Power to the (shopping) people!: Changing traditional customer-vendor interaction in online markets by ICT-enabled "group buying" Konferenzbeitrag
In: D'Ascenzo, Fabrizio; Magni, Massimo; Lazazzara, Alessandra; Za, Stefano (Hrsg.): Blurring the Boundaries Through Digital Innovation, S. 203–213, Springer, 2016, ISBN: 978-3-319-38973-8, (information and communication technologies (ICT) are enablers for cooperative and collective online shopping. This novel phenomenon is also known under the terms “group buying” and “collective buying” and can be found in business-to-business (B2B) contexts as well as in business-to-consumer (B2C) shopping transactions. We investigate recent developments regarding enablers and inhibitors of ICT-based group buying concepts in various markets. In this paper, we perform a thorough analysis of group buying approaches with the intent to explain the evolution, developments, and changes of online group shopping variants. We provide an overview of approaches and derived variants of the online group buying concept highlighted with selected real-world application examples. A detailed SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) for each of the two dominant approaches (top-down and bottom-up) represents the core contribution of the paper and may build the basis for the development and improvement of future business models in the field.; XII Conference of the Italian Chapter of AIS : Reshaping Organizations through Digital and Social Innovation, ITAIS2015 ; Conference date: 09-10-2015 Through 10-10-2015).

abstract = {Organizations’ information infrastructures are exposed to a large variety of threats. The most complex of these threats unfold in stages, as actors exploit multiple attack vectors in a sequence of calculated steps. Deciding how to respond to such serious threats poses a challenge that is of substantial practical relevance to IT security managers. These critical decisions require an understanding of the threat actors—including their various motivations, resources, capabilities, and points of access—as well as detailed knowledge about the complex interplay of attack vectors at their disposal. In practice, however, security decisions are often made in response to acute short-term requirements, which results in inefficient resource allocations and ineffective overall threat mitigation. The decision support methodology introduced in this paper addresses this issue. By anchoring IT security managers’decisions in an operational model of the organization’s information infrastructure, we provide the means to develop a better understanding of security problems, improve situational awareness, and bridge the gap between strategic security investment and operational implementation decisions. To this end, we combine conceptual modeling of security knowledge with a simulation-based optimization that hardens a modeled infrastructure against simulated attacks, and provide a decision support component for selecting from efficient combinations of security controls. We describe the prototypical implementation of this approach, demon-strate how it can be applied, and discuss the results of an in-depth expert evaluation.},

abstract = {Location-based advertising (LBA) allows the delivery of advertising messages to consumers in places that are known for their particular high and positive advertising effect. While LBA is recognized for static roadside billboards and the Web, LBA can now be found on mobile devices. This mobile advertising adds valuable opportunities for companies: it allows consumers to be addressed (i) individually, (ii) based on their current location, and (iii) dynamically in real-time; furthermore, (iv) content may be replaced quickly by remote access. Accordingly, within the mobile marketing domain, LBA on mobile devices turns over a new leaf. This young research field is interdisciplinary at its core and marketing and technical experts expect major impetus. To contribute to this growing field, we systematically analyze and evaluate existing literature in the field of LBA on mobile devices, and present the results of six analyses. By building bridges between the involved disciplines, we present existing research in a condensed, concise and evaluating form which will support researchers in orienting for future research in the field. Furthermore, we pinpoint selected “white spots” in research and draw attention to promising areas for future research and directions of future development trends.},

abstract = {Service science is perceived as a multidisciplinary approach with the service system as its most important element. The services we use are provided through a certain service system, whereas service system has a specific structure and creates value through defined interactions between its entities, as well as through interactions with external service systems. On a large scale, economy as a whole may be interpreted as one huge service system, containing a variety of entities and interrelated sub-systems. Thus, we provide in our work an analysis of how service science deals with the interaction within and between service systems creating value. And, as one goal of service science and service systems is to provide a basis for service innovation, through which cost efficiency and value creation is enabled, we discuss how service innovation explores means of securing knowledge leadership, which is crucial for further growth of the service sector.},

abstract = {The market for digital signage has been growing at an accelerated pace for years. The benefits of novel approaches – such as contextualization and interaction functionalities – were soon recognized for achieving better advertis-ing effects. However, the major types of digital signage currently in use have different requirements on the entire digital signage system. These requirements include components such as the digital signage network, digital signage ex-change, scheduling, and pricing. The present paper discusses the differences be-tween these components in depth. The core contribution of this paper is a de-tailed analysis of the potential of digital signage. Emphasis is placed on chal-lenges in performance measurement and implementation, operating and using a digital signage system, display blindness, and negative externalities. Possible solutions, as well as best practices are presented. At its core, this paper provides an overview of the essentials of doing business with digital signage.},

abstract = {The introduction of crowdsourcing offers numerous business opportunities. In recent years, manifold forms of crowdsourcing have emerged on the market – also in logistics. Thereby, the ubiquitous availability and sensor-supported assistance functions of mobile devices support crowdsourcing applications, which promotes contextual interactions between users at the right place at the right time. This paper presents the results of an in-depth analysis on crowdsourcing in logistics in the course of ongoing research in the field of location-based crowdsourcing (LBCS). This paper analyzes LBCS for both, ‘classic’ logistics as well as ‘information’ logistics. Real-world examples of crowdsourcing applications are used to underpin the two evaluated types of logistics using crowdsourcing. Potential advantages and challenges of logistics with the crowd (‘crowd-logistics’) are discussed. Accordingly, this paper aims to provide the necessary basis for a novel interdisciplinary research field.},

In order to respond appropriately to the high and still increasing demands of consumers, traders make use of mobile applications in many industries. In addition, as far as the trade of textiles is concerned, vendors use mobile shopping applications to increase their market opportunities and competitiveness. In this context, the authors formulate eight hypotheses and set up a research model for further analysis concerning consumer acceptance of mobile shopping, by using the textile goods market in Austria as an example},

abstract = {As novel forms of crowdsourcing emerge on the market, we emphasize that the important aspect of location- dependency is more complex than assumed and, thus, suggest a typology along two dimensions of locality: the first dimension refers to whether or not the crowdsourcees interact while being collocated or dispersed; the second dimension refers to the locality of the crowdsourcees in relation to the crowdsourcer's locality (local vs. remote crowd). The resulting four types of crowdsourcing are underpinned by real-world examples. Potential advantages and challenges of the four types are discussed, particularly with respect to motivation and value. The suggested categorization shall provide the necessary basis for future research, as a systematic approach is essential to enable, yield and foster sustainability in a novel interdisciplinary research field like location-based crowdsourcing.},

abstract = {This paper deals with the future development of cloud computing. A detailed SWOT Analysis examines the most important factors to be considered for the future of cloud computing. Based on the outcomes, the real value of cloud computing is discussed, followed by the challenges for the future development of cloud computing. Those points finally lead to a statement regarding whether cloud computing represents a new paradigm or if it is just an upcoming trend of the IT industry. The result is that cloud computing is on its way to become the new hosting paradigm. However, there are many issues that will have to be dealt with along the way. As small enterprises start to accept and integrate cloud structures, even bigger enterprises and global players will be introduced. In order to become the new hosting paradigm, further development and an adoption of non-standard technologies by a broad spectrum of users will be necessary.},

abstract = {When designing secure information systems, a profound understanding of the threats that they are exposed to is indispensable. Today’s most severe risks come from malicious threat agents exploiting a variety of attack vectors to achieve their goals, rather than from random opportunistic threats such as malware. Most security analyses, however, focus on fixing technical weaknesses, but do not account for sophisticated combinations of attack mechanisms and heterogeneity in adversaries’ motivations, resources, capabilities, or points of access. In order to address these shortcomings and, thus, to provide security analysts with a tool that makes it possible to also identify emergent weaknesses that may arise from dynamic interactions of attacks, we have combined rich conceptual modeling of security knowledge with attack graph generation and discrete-event simulation techniques. This paper describes the prototypical implementation of the resulting security analysis tool and demonstrates how it can be used for an experimental evaluation of a system’s resilience against various adversaries.},

abstract = {Labour force in the art sector is characterised by high qualification, butlow income for those people who perform the core contribution in art, i.e. the artists. As artists are typically self-dependent in managing their business, they should have managerial skills besides those skills necessary to perform their artistic core activities. If the lack of managerial skills is a reason why artists fail to make a living from their talent, then this chain of cause and effect could be ruptured by adequate educational opportunities. This paper analyses the curricula of a wide range of institutions offering art education programmes and identifies their managerial learning content. In doing so, we focused on German-speaking countries, the so-called DACH region (i.e. Germany, Austria and Switzerland, whereas D, A and CH are country codes). We identified and analysed 159 course syllabi of 81 art universities, schools and academies. The results of our study indicate a lack of managerial learning contents: a vast majority of institutions follow a rather traditional approach to art education, focusing solelyon artistic competences. We suggest the implementation of managerial learningcontents to better prepare art students for successful careers in the arts.},

abstract = {Development and improvement of intercloud environments is still in an early stage, correspondingly, analyzing adequate realization of many types of applications is essential. In the presented contribution we have chosen an application with a high potential for value generation through cloud and cloud of clouds, i.e. The real estate business. The reason for this accumulated benefit that clouds may generate is threefold: (i) the objects in real estate business have high values, (ii) some phases during their life cycle cover very long time periods, and (iii) many different actors are involved along the value chain, many of them are SME's. We give a to-the-point insight into the real estate sector (life cycle, value, chain, actors) and demonstrate possible effects through clouds for selected stakeholders. We further give a brief overview of cloud-based products in the field of real estate for a well-defined market (i.e. DACH-countries) in order to demonstrate the current situation.},

abstract = {The main challenge about dealing with servitization arises from the fact that one has to consider several diverging research disciplines, comprising of service science, manufacturing and operations management equally. Besides, contemporary economic environments are influenced by rapid development of information and communication technologies in different spheres. Thus, the servitizing companies are increasingly confronted with several substantial challenges on the implementation of novel ICT applications, which in turn may be a promising approach to exploit its capabilities to generate competitive advantage. Accordingly, first we discuss the fundamental impact of emergent ICTs on business models and customer behavior. Next, we examine the dedicated implications on the servitization sourced from ICT capabilities. Besides, a brief overview of current implementations is given, which in turn needs to be further broadened. Finally, potentially-valuable research directions, since the paper is a primary step in our research on the ICT and servitization inter-relationing, are proposed.},

abstract = {In the following work, we analyse complex project management processes and propose understanding of project management tools as a service, both whenspeaking in software terms and management skills frames. Project management can be offered as a service in different forms. Companies specialized in project management may manage a project for the benefits of third party, using theclient’s technical knowledge and principles of work. Companies that want to manage their projects internally need project management training service and software solution with certain functionalities and characteristics. The solution must follow the company policies in regard to resources, time and cost management, collaboration etc. Due to companies’ specifics, it is highly unlikely that an off-the-shelf solution is applicable everywhere. The service of customization of an existing tool or development of a system specifically for the company needs can be also considered a project management service.},

Crowdsourcing is arecent development to solve a variety of problems efficiently, and whichimplies various alternatives of collaboration. However, as novel technologiesare able to exploit location-sensing capabilities of mobile devices, locationbasedcrowdsourcing (LBCS) developed as a new concept. This paper suggestsa typology for LBCS as a means for fostering collaboration with the crowdthrough three types of LBCS: confirmation-based, digital good-based, andphysical-based. Each type is underpinned with exemplary applications.Furthermore, opportunities and challenges are analysed; and future trends inLBCS are discussed.},

abstract = {The core of the open innovation paradigm is based on the principle of collecting ideas from external sources into the organization, and bringing those adapted, transformed and enriched ideas to the market. However, under the constant pressure of being innovative, companies have to try harder to tap their customers’ knowledge and abilities. Crowdsourcing communities provide an arena for a vast amount of consumers to actively participate in innovation processes. However, as this kind of external participation in innovation processes is still in its infancy, organizations need guidance and analytic support to reveal the potential of the open innovation paradigm. Therefore, this paper analyses new product development using social crowd integration concepts and—as a result—points to further promising directions and subtopics to perform future research in this area.},

abstract = {Around half a decade ago, first scholars and practitioners started to think about the basic characteristics and marketing opportunities of services. These efforts underwent multiple conceptual transitions throughout the years, ultimately resulting in a new conceptualization called 'Service-Dominant Logic' (S-D Logic). Thus, the main goals of this work are twofold: on the one hand, a retrospective view on the development of viable service models is given, on the other hand, a detailed investigation of the S-D Logic evolution, into the context of inter-cooperative strategies and resources planning, is provided. Consequently, this chapter provides a retrospective view on the development of the field of service science and its viable service business models. It reviews how-commencing in the late 1970s-the field started to be developed into the contemporary era where a service-dominant (S-D) Logic has gained much scientific attention. The most important developments and debates regarding the (non-) usefulness of a differentiation strategy between goods and services in this period are highlighted. In addition, some illustrative examples regarding scientific application of the contemporary S-D Logic perspective are given. textcopyright 2014 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.},

abstract = {Once service organisations recognise collaborative e-marketplace as a strategic business approach, they can embrace the ultimate form of competition enabled by the internet. Hence, the collaboration makes it possible to create customer-driven value-chains by harmonising demand and supply channels. Then service organisations can reduce the costs, speed up time-to-market, and achieve flexibility by making decisions based on who can deliver the required services at the right price, quality and place. Thus, we study in this paper the influences on the development of collaborative e-business in the service organisations. We start with a consideration of the current state and the relations between e-business and c-business. We continue with a discussion of features, chances and challenges of the collaborative business in contemporary vibrant and fast rising markets, the businesses are acting in. We examine also a successful collaboration planning issues, as well as different aspects affecting the enlargement of collaborating businesses. And, we conclude with a viewpoint on future collaboration trends in the service organisations.},

abstract = {E-Commerce has become an increasingly important source of competitive advantage for B2B companies. It enables them not only to decrease transactional costs and offer wide range of additional services, but also to enhance efficiency in collaboration with their customers and suppliers. Thus, the objective of this paper is to explore how industrial companies use B2B E-Commerce, how it enables their services and what are the main advantages. In the context of continuous increase of the services role in B2B markets and rapid development of information technologies, the paper turns high practical and theoretical importance for business environment. As it represents a review and summarizes a broad theoretical background on the topic, it could be chosen as a basis for further research on different strategies in B2B markets and analysis of the role of E-Commerce. The paper can also support companies in decision making on E-Commerce investments strategy.},

abstract = {Mobile technology has undergone a drastical evolution within the past few years. Cell phones with small monochrome displays-designed solely for phone calls and text messaging-have turned into miniaturized computers with dual-core processors. Combined with 3G standards such as UMTS, mobile devices nowadays offer almost the same freedom in exploring the Internet as desktop PCs do. Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Android, and the availability of mobile broadband Internet have changed the mobile landscape, and-as a consequence-the way in which mobile services are delivered to their users. Thus, we focus in this paper on the theory and implementation of four distinct platform models for mobile service delivery. Furthermore, we perform a classification of platform agility features-business and technology oriented-along with a comparative analysis of their effectiveness.},

A type of band particularly difficult to manage is a telephone bandthat does not have a fixed line-up of musicians. Together, the musicians form a virtual organisation. Every participant in the organisation brings in a certain set of skills, has specific business goals, and has to bear some risks. The major findings include a thorough documentation of activities involved in managing a medium-sized telephone band which are explained in more detail by modelling theprocesses. Emphasising the use of information and communication technologies, the results provide a chronological sequence of activities that may generally be used for band and event management.},

abstract = {Next Generation Network (NGN) is an innovative revenue stream for the service providers from the increase of their service offerings. Therefore, it is important to understand how proposed solutions in NGN markets can enable flexible and easy service creation, delivery and management both to service providers as well as third party application developers. Consequently, this book provides guidelines for the NGN service platforms evaluation, in terms of functionality, programmability, flexibility, openness, and inter-operability. In other words, the objective is to revise some of the major benefits promised by NGN, namely productivity, creativity and new revenues from new business opportunities, and to overhaul how well current product offerings can support these capabilities with available service development tools.},
